Piper HE-1, AAE-1 WW II

One of only three still known to exist. It was restored by Gene Linder of Paloa, KS who found it litterally stored in a truckload of 5 gal buckets.

The Piper HE-1 is a Piper J-5C modified for use by the US Army as an ambulance airplane. When helicopters were introduced in 1943, the Piper HE-1 was redesignated as the AE-1. There 100 delivered to the Army in 1942.
